Getty Childhood Academy (Greater Accra)

The Childhood Academy was founded by an inspiring Ghanaian woman, Candida Gertrude Gator Agbovi and the husband John Agbovi in September 2007 in the Ga West Municipality of Greater Accra.  It  began with just four pupils and a staff of two. by August 2010 there were 160 pupils, aged between one and eight years old, and four staff.

The main occupation in the local community is farming and until the centre was founded there was nowhere for parents to leave their children safely whilst they worked on their lands. This led Gertrude to set up the centre at her house, something for which the local community is incredibly grateful.

Child Care Development Centre (Greater Accra)

This institution was built by an enthusiastic Ghanaian woman, Dretha Tenkorang. It is located about 15 minutes by public transport from VPWA Volunteer Residence. The centre provides education to children between the ages of eight months and 13 years.  The centre goes up to Grade 5/Class 5. It has around 230 children under its care who are all from the surrounding community.  It presently has ten teachers but is in great need of extra support from volunteers. The centre has amazing kids who have a fantastic attitude to learning.

God Eye Orphanage (GEO) (Volta Region)

GEO is an orphanage in the Volta Region of Ghana which provides shelter, food and education to orphans and abandoned children.  With just a little support from local churches and organisations, John, who runs the orphanage and feeds the children from his farm, approached the VPWA for assistance.

VPWA has been helping John in looking after the children. Accommodation is now available at the orphanage for volunteers. This means we have placements available for people who would love to bring care and affection to the children.
