Deworm Ghana 2012
Programme Information
Between July 6th - July 19th 2012, over 5000 children in public schools in parts of Eastern Region of Ghana
will be treated for soil-transmitted worm infestation as part of a campaign entitled 'Deworm Ghana'.
The worm infection causes a variety of serious health problems and often prevents children from attending school or being able to concentrate whilst in class.
VPWA is recruiting volunteers from around the world to work in partnership with Community Health Centres to conduct the deworming campaign. The international team of volunteers will be trained to administer the deworming medicine Mebendazole (500 mg) and to also teach children in schools about the dangers of worms.
Mass deworming programmes based in schools are promoted by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and are extremely cost effective per child.
The 'Deworm Ghana' campaign is organised by Volunteer Partnerships for West Africa (VPWA) through its Ghana Medical Volunteers programme.
Cost and Payment
Programme cost
€480 / $660 / £408 -This includes a training workshop on administering deworm medicine, accommodation, meals (2 x daily), in-country transportation related to the programme, a Deworm Ghana T- Shirt, certificate, field trips and group excursions.
The above cost does not include airfare, visa, vaccinations, entrance fees for excursions, personal expenses or other costs such as extra nights lodging and meals. Academic credit is available for students but needs to be cn
Deposit and payment
An initial deposit of 200Euro/$275 plus a 40Euro/$50 application fee (due at the time of application) must be paid to VPWA to confirm the placement. The remaining balance is due by 15th May 2012
Cancellation
If you decide to withdraw from the programme please contact the Ghana Medical Volunteers programme coordinator. We are unable to refund any deposits paid. If volunteers withdraw after 15th May 2012, you will have to forfeit all payments made to the programme.
