To do this VPWA ran an inter-school maths and science competition for Junior High School pupils.

The competition involved sixteen schools (two schools from each of the eight circuits in the Municipality)  who each selected three pupils to represent them in the competition.

All schools competed in a preliminary qualifying round which whittled the sixteen schools down to eight schools. These eight schools then competed until there was just two schools remaining. These schools fought it out in the final which took place at the GA West Municipal Assembly in Amasaman. The winning school was awarded a cash prize, gift items and a trip to Accra’s Planetarium for the contestants and their classmates.

Why is this project important?

The aim of this project is to promote the disciplines of Mathematics and Science to pupils and motivate them to thrive in these subjects. Equally we want to encourage their teachers and head teachers to focus more on encouraging children in these subjects.

Making this competition an annual event could help schools see an improvement on the currently low pass rates in the Maths and Science within the GA West Municipality. This in turn could greatly contribute to Ghana's development in the future.

Sponsorship and Publicity Opportunity

We are looking for sponsors to help us to run the Maths and Science quiz programme on an annual basis.

In return for their support, all sponsors will receive free advertising at all of the competition venues for the duration of the events.

Contributing sponsors could also receive further exposure as we will be inviting local TV and radio stations to the events. In addition, sponsors will be mentioned in press releases to be published before and after the competition in print, online and electronic media.

A website to be created for the initiative will feature the sponsors logos. This will provide the opportunity for sponsors to communicate their commitment to children, education and Ghana's future to people in Ghana, as well as the rest of the world.
